Meet John – Somo's IT Support Technician.

It's time to focus on a superstar that's a true backbone of the business (yes – IT, who else). John joined Somo in October 2017 and has made a huge impact ever since (he also won The Best Apprentice award, but we won't brag). So, read on to learn more about John – what's his day-to-day job like, what he loves most about it and what's his secret talent. 

1. Tell us about your typical day at Somo

I work in the IT department as an IT Support Technician supporting Somo-ers with anything IT related and working with my team to make everyone’s lives easier! I usually start the day by going around all the meeting rooms and checking if all the hardware is working and ready to go. This is then followed by a catch up with the IT team about what we want to accomplish on the day. Most of my day consists of troubleshooting and working on tickets that are logged into our IT support ticketing system, tickets range from provisioning accounts, licenses and hardware for new starters to troubleshooting a printing problem.

2. What’s the best thing about your role?

Exposure to a variety of IT problems and being involved in some of the IT security aspects is very interesting and has definitely benefited me. Working in IT also allows me to be involved in many events that Somo take part in, where I am involved in setting up VR and AR tech which is cool! Just want to say that working at Somo, all your hard work and efforts are always recognised and thanked for – which is so rewarding and makes you feel valued. 

3. What’s your secret talent?

I’d say that my secret talent is cooking. I love to cook and I meal prep healthy food every Sunday and Wednesday for me and my girlfriend. I try to make something new every week but am running out of ideas!
